3/31 Update
This past week we fine tuned our approach of the group course project. We covered the different sections involved with the project including: what to look for in clients, possible clients, meeting with the client, the needs assessment, purpose or theme, and the outcomes we expect. The case study was a helpful tool provided to dissect and explore a sample of our project objectives. This past class has helped regain focus and direct our attention to the specific areas of making an organizational workshop. We are currently pending a response to work with APO (Alpha Phi Omega) and have team members that are in contact with the organization's president. Once we receive approval, the process will begin to introduce ourselves to them while discovering their needs. The handout to go with the Slytherin Quiddith Case Study was really helpful to follow along with the break down of sections required to complete the project. I am really excited to be at this point of the semester and look forward to using the knowledge that we have gained through out the course. -Brent Cyhan P.S. Don't forget to list some outcomes for the Slytherin Quidditch Case Study to bring to our group meeting @ 4:30pm on 3/31/11!

Chapters 15 & 16!!!
I learned so much by doing this Nuts and Bolts presentation on chapters 15 and 16. Of course I got so much new information out of actually planning out and doing the presentation because I was able to get out of my comfort zone and see what it was like to lead a facilitation, but I also learned a lot from the two chapters. It's really true that you can really learn something by teaching it.
Learning/teaching about non-verbal ques was good for me. I know in the past that when I have gotten up in front of a group, I sometimes twist my hands in weird ways or do things like that. This can make it seem like I am distracted and am not interested in what I am talking about. By going over this in the chapter, I now really think about what non-verbal actions I am doing in front of a group and how they might be perceived. I had to give a little presentation for my other EDU class, and when I was up there I noticed that I was playing with the paper I was using for notes a lot. I also noticed that some of the students were paying more attention to that then what I was saying. Once I saw how this non-verbal action was effecting myself and my audience I was able to stop doing it and bring the focus back on to what I was saying.
I also really liked learning/teaching about conflict. I am one of those people who runs away from conflict and doesn't like to see other people mad, so learning about the different ways to confront conflict will hopefully be a great tool for me in the future. Overall these two chapters have really given me some new things to think about and have taught me some new ways to handle myself in front of an audience!

Chapters 12, 13, & 14
Last weeks presentations were definitely memorable! The whole class start to finish was awesome! I learned so much from that one class which was really good because it ended up helping me out so much this past weekend while I was putting on a retreat for my organization.
I definitely took away a ton of knowledge, especially about the use of good humor and the importance of transitions. During the retreat I ran while I was in the middle of a debrief I noticed that I was losing the group in what I was saying, because I was not being clear at all! With a little humor about the use of all of my "um's" (which was at least 15 in a 5 minute span, a COM majors nightmare) I was able to laugh at my self but also refocus myself and the group about the point I was trying to make. It was at that point I recognized "hey I just used humor" and I was really excited to share that with Lindsey during our break!
I also paid extra attention to the transitions that I used. Typically I move to topic to topic with little connection because I believed that the group would understand at the end of the activities and I was frustrated when they didn't! This retreat was so different! Everyone was focused and understood what was going on just by use of transitions and creating the "what" and the "why"!
I am so thankful for having gone over everything group 3 did on Thursday because not only did I benefit from it greatly but so did my organization!!
